Harling's Jewellers steps in to help family devastated by heartless thief

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vancouver, BC ~ March 10, 2008 ~ A Vancouver Jeweller jumps in to help 90 year old widow, Agnes Ulmer, from the devastating loss of her most treasured possessions, which were stolen from the Vancouver General Hospital last week when she was recovering from having her leg amputated. Harling’s Jewellers, a family owned business since 1964, has been dealing with robbery and loss claims for over 35 years, but this act by the heartless thief got the attention of Chris Battensby.

Mr. Battensby, president of Harling’s Jewellers said, “When we heard about Mrs. Ulmer’s loss we immediately wanted to do something. Very few stories of loss are as heart wrenching as this horrific act. While we understand heirlooms and wedding bands can never be replaced, we would like to do the next best thing. Our team of goldsmiths will study family photos to re-create the bands and our top jewellery designer will match the gems in the rings as close as possible to make three new rings exactly like the old ones.”

Mr. Battensby and Harling’s Jewellers extended this gesture free of charge to Mrs. Ulmer, regardless of whether or not the rings were insured. Upon completion of the new rings, they will be presented to Mrs. Ulmer in hopes of easing some of the pain she has endured since this heartless thief struck her at such a vulnerable time. While police have identified a suspect in this case, sadly, in cases like this, the jewellery is often not recovered.

This extremely generous offer by Harling’s Jewellers only goes to show you that there is still allot of good in the world. For more information on Harling’s Jewellers visit www.harlingsjewellers.com.
