Harling's Jewellers - Appraisals
The only way to learn the true value and quality of your jewellery is to get an appraisal by a certified professional. Harling’s offers a full range of appraisal services. Simply bring your jewellery into one of our three showrooms.
Why get an Appraisal?
· An appraisal insures that you have received the quality of jewellery you paid for.
· Appraisals establish the replacement value for your insurance coverage, in the event
of loss or damage.
Appraisal Results
A proper appraisal determines both the replacement cost and the actual cash value of your jewellery. Both of these numbers are used by insurance companies to calculate the amount they will pay for your lost or stolen jewellery.
Replacement Cost
Replacement cost is the actual cost to replace a lost or stolen piece of jewellery with a new piece. For replacement cost, it doesn't matter how old the piece was or how long ago you purchased it. In order to determine an accurate replacement value our highly experienced and G.I.A.-certified staff meets with you to obtain an accurate description of the item or items in question. From these descriptions, and utilizing any past appraisals or photographs that may be available, Harling's will be able to determine an accurate replacement cost that we are prepared to stand behind 100% of the time.
Actual Cash Value (ACV)
The actual cash value of an item differs from the replacement cost of an item. Whereas the replacement cost is the cost to replace with new, the actual cash value represents the actual value of the item at the time of its loss or theft. In order to determine the ACV, we first establish the replacement cost. Once the replacement cost is established the item will be "depreciated" to arrive at the ACV, based on the amount of wear and tear and current Fair Market Values.
